Take your seats, and, since you are all gathered here at last, let us see if what we decided on at the feast of the Scirophoria has been duly done.

      First Woman
[60] Yes. Firstly, as agreed, I have let the hair under my armpits grow thicker than a bush; furthermore, whilst my husband was at the Assembly, I rubbed myself from head to foot with oil and then stood the whole day long in the sun.

[205] Citizens, you are the ones who are the cause of all this trouble. You vote yourselves salaries out of the public funds and care only for your own personal interests; hence the state limps along like Aesimus. But if you hearken to me, you will be saved. [210] I assert that the direction of affairs must be handed over to the women, for they are the ones who have charge and look after our households.

But nowadays we run here to earn the three obols, for the citizen has become as mercenary [310] as the stonemason.

Walk up smartly,(...) and [295] do not fail in any point of your part; let us first demand our fee and then vote for all that may perchance be useful for our partisans. . . Ah! what am I saying? I meant to say, for our fellow-citizens.

Let us drive away these men of the city who used [301] to stay at home and [302] chatter round the table in the days when only an obolus was paid,".

      Aristophanes (c. 446 – c. 386 BC), Ecclesiazusae

People will just spend more if they get an extra 1000 dollars a month , that's why poor people stay poor even if you g injve them money they will just spend it on useless short term things instead of using it for better use

                                  Nearly 4 quadrillion dollars.

Can't help wondering how many of the objections to UBI must sound tremendously similar to the ones raised against the institution of democracy versus monarchy (whose power is not only nominal), equal law (in theory) versus nobility. The poor are uneducated and will bring the state to ruin, women are irrational and do not belong in the public sphere and should therefore not vote... I am also sure there were loads of anecdotal evidence proving those points. The heart of the matter then and now seems to be that there is no faith in certain classes of people, and who holds the power likes to think they are the only ones who could. Then monarchies failed and yet humanity goes on.

the main criticism is that America is broke and cant afford handing out that much money and doing so will require money printing and will ruin their currency. I welcome the day that that happens so I can travel the country having sex with young women for money.

The idea of the UBI is naive. Along with all the "Yangsters".

None of this exists in an vacuum.

The richest people in our society aren't going to allow the lower classes to receive more disposable income without appropriating it. They DEFINITELY aren't going to allow workers more leverage as depicted in 6:00-6:15

If a UBI is implemented without protections for workers the capitalist class and corporations will simply raise prices (you don't need inflation for prices to rise) and lower wages proportionally. They know their workers and customers have more disposable income, there is nothing stopping them from taking it; and they will because the highest motive of any business is profit.

This is WHY Yang wants a UBI "instead of a higher minimum wage". Yang is a former corporate lawyer and CEO.

He doesn't wanna piss off his rich corporate buddies. A UBI doesn't worry them because they know they will just take the money back in the form of higher prices and lower wages. But a higher minimum wage is unacceptable because it means an actual loss for them, as higher prices WITHOUT lower wages means they lose money as most businesses are customers as well.

Most homeless people I see downtown are drinking coffee, which is a drug. It's not alcohol or tobacco, because those are more than a couple dollars.

Then again, in my city, we have 3 different food banks (1 visit/month for 5days/food total) and in downtown there's a soup kitchen every like 5 blocks. I went to a couple soup kitchens out of curiosity and you get enough to fill up even a comfortable suburbs lad like myself. Not bad at all.

And the same rent difference situation is the same without UBI

I can tell you right now that the average low income individual is using drugs or drinking in excess . Additionally, whenever they get a large amount of money in a large chunk ($1000+) on their check, without exception they spend it by the end of the weekend. Clothes, new phone that they don’t need, coke or pills, getting their hair or nails done, bullshit. I can hear some of them wishing they had a car or that the power company would stop shutting their apartment off, then they turn right around and blow their money as soon as they get it. I’m a sales director at a call center btw.

the inflation would be because the gov doesnt have the money to pay out that level of benefits, so they have to print money out and pass it around. that money printing increases the money supply, which decreases the purchasing power of the money - meaning inflation. Americans are retards if they actually think this is a good idea.

Taxes to companies would increase and they would raise prices and lay off workers to compensate.

Since taxes will probably be how you get the money from the wealthy, they will most likely use loopholes to get away from paying their share (which is wrong but can't really be prevented unless tax systems are made better) the burden, especially in places like the US will go almost entirely on the middle class which already happens. So maybe find a solution for that problem too and no one could refuse it.
